While there haven't been much action of the napoleonic kind going on here I have done some painting at least. Three units of french light infantry, these were on sale and I bought three boxes on a whim last Christmas. They have been in a half complete state for a long time but I finally completed them. I did some head swaps and put some pre-bardin style shakos and bearskins on the elite companies. I also built a bugler from a skirmisher with victrix bugler arms.
The old guard was a christmas present , they have been completed for a long time but have never left my project shelf.
I built a unit of prussian hussars by simply putting left over heads from a prussain infantry set on french hussars. They might not be completely accurate but they will suffice until plastic prussian cavalry sets are released or my hobby budget improves enough to buy metal cavalry.

Latest painted.
I haven't had any big "must do" projects the latest days so I have been doing some random painting here and there. Fifteen casualty-markers are done, five of them are metal Prussians from Warlord games. Now we might get out of using dice placed next to the unit suffering from casualties.
Also a small unit of dismounted Dragoons. These models come with the Perry Miniatures Dragoons set. I really like the look of them. Sort of like an Napoleonic spec-ops unit, even thou they are far from it I reckon. I have one more unit of these to paint. Also on a side note, Hekke has started painting an unit of Swiss infantry. Using the Perry french infantry set and fallowing the painting-guide in it to make them Swiss looking.

Horse artillery.
A new unit added to my collection. It was a breeze to paint these wonderfully sculpted miniatures by Perry Miniatures and I'm pleased with how they turned out. My collection is lacking in the artillery department so these are a welcome addition. I'm planing to add a second foot 6pdr battery, these would be perrys to.

Cavalry reservs arrive!
Huzzah! Finally, the rest of my cavalry order arrives. Four boxes, well one hussar box has already been built and painted as the 7th Hussars. The other will be painted as the 1st Hussars. The Dragoons will be the 5th and 6th. Now that will be pretty tiny regiments but additional boxes will be bought to bring these up to respectable ("man sized" as they call it) numbers.
As you would expect the quality of these sets is impressive. There is practically no flash and details are crisp. There is but one thing I feel a tiny bit bummed about is that I'm forced to pay extra for the dismounted Dragoons, which will probably never leave their sprue. But considering the price for this quality I don't feel sure I don't even want to mention it.
On that note I have to say I really prefer plastic cavalry over metal due to several factors; cost is obvious, weight is another, and they wont bend and chip the painting if you have an accident.
I'm really hoping for plastic Chasseurs and Lanciers! Until then I might consider doing one or two more Cuirassier or Dragoon regiments... darn it, I way beyond hooked!

7th Hussars
Most of my order of cavalry the other week was unfortunately out of stock. One box of Hussars however showed up and I dove right in on its contents. For £13.50 I have to say its a amazing quality. Its rare these days to feel like you really get your moneys worth.
I painted them as the 7th Hussars in campaign dress. I think they turned out ok! And within a reasonable time too. One day to paint the riders, one day to paint the horses, and yesterday I did the basing. Within a close future I'll bring this unit up to proper strength, 24 probably.
If it seems like they are falling of their horses its because they are, they are not glued to their saddles yet.

Passtime Painting
I'm waiting for a couple of boxes of cavalry to arrive and I had to paint SOMETHING! Lucky me I had twelve skirmishing voltigeurs in my "bits box". It was a while since I last painted napoleonics. I panted these in two sessions, each ~3 hours.
I also scratch-built a small townhouse witch I intend to paint this weekend, I'll take some pics when its done.

Victrix French Infantry
Six battalions á 36 minis each. This is the contents of five boxes, so I have loads of command and kneeling minis in my bits-box now. I painted them a bit differently than I have done before. I started with a white base coat and painted using a lot of washes. Certainly not display case material, but they will suffice on the game table.
My french force now contains 17 infantry battalions, 480 minis in total.

Lets start slow, my first french division done.
Before I go into detail of each unit I build and paint I thought I'd start off by showing my first completed division.
A french infantry division of ten battalions, three of them legre. Eight units are 24 figures strong, one regiment of two battalions are 30 figures strong, these two have mounted colonels.
The division is divided into two brigades, each with its own skirmish screen of 12 figures. A four piece battery of 6 pdr's is under its command.
All miniatures are by Perry miniatures, based for the rules General de Brigade.
